My research services often focus on subject matter research for content/curriculum ideation and writing purposes. My research has been used for creating the curriculum for a university course, a documentary, a video essay series, developing brand identities for media projects and businesses and in US federal policy white papers.
Oftentimes, creators wish to make a course or explore a new topic in a video — but they don’t know what to say. A wise man once said “there’s no such thing as writer’s block, only reader’s block.” If you’ve absorbed enough high quality ideas, it’s much easier to say something of substance yourself. Properly researching a topic can take a long time and many creators prefer to work on the creative elements of their projects.
Sometimes a creator simply can’t research something on their own because it’s locked inside their own mind and they need the right person to extract it. I am a seasoned interviewer and I’ve been told by my collaborators I am great at asking the right questions to pull tough-to-articulate thoughts out of their head, and then organize all of the seemingly unrelated concepts into a coherent, actionable idea.
Whether it’s deep diving into books on a niche subject or into your mind through a series of interviews, research is one of my favorite parts of my work. I love learning, reading, going down rabbit holes and discussing those ideas with other people and I spend most of my free time doing that anyways. Many creators and founders have found me useful in saving dozens of hours and helping identify the first principles and holistic frameworks that help them finally make sense of their ideas and know what they want to say with their projects.
My process for research assignments is as follows:
Below are four case studies. In each case study is a brief overview of the assignment, an optional in depth explanation of my research process, and links to finished deliverables created from my research. When possible I will also link my own bibliographies and note files on these subjects in organized Notion databases.
